The expansion of a business park in South Carolina is anticipated to lead to the addition of many military and defense jobs in the area.
Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) is expected to occupy 43,000 square feet of the expanded Remount Business Park in North Charleston, according to the Post and Courier. The addition to the park is significant as the expansion reportedly cost $18 million.
SAIC is expected to relocate 240 of its employees to the new building.
The developers of the addition to the park made a deal with the Charleston County Council. In exchange for a fixed millage rate for the next two decades, the park promises to bring at least 600 jobs to the area and support a payroll of $30 million.
The park is also close to the Naval Weapons Station and to Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic, one of SAIC's biggest customers.
"They're our bread-and-butter customer," Jim Thigpen, SAIC's senior vice president, told the news source. "Our mission is to keep them happy and keep winning their contracts."
SAIC was founded by a group of scientists in 1969, according to the company website.
