The construction of a power plant in Florida promises to bring in hundreds of utility jobs to the Sunshine State.
Florida Power & Light (FPL) is being built a $1.1 billion plant, named the Cape Canaveral Next Generation Clean Energy Center, by San Antonio, Texas-based Zachry Holdings, according to Florida Today. The natural gas plant is located in Port St. John.
According to the news provider, site preparation has begun on the project and Zachry Holdings is beginning to hire workers to help with the development and construction of the plant.
“We are excited that Zachry has opened a new hiring office in Brevard County to help fill approximately 600 direct jobs at peak construction that will be created through FPL’s Cape Canaveral modernization project,” Greg Brostowicz, a spokeman for FPL, told the news source.
The plant, which will replace a nearly half-century old oil burning facility, is expected to have a less of an impact on the environment than the older structure and is expected to be operational in 2013.
Zachry Holdings was founded nearly 85 years ago by a Texas A&M student, according to the company’s website.
