McKesson Medical-Surgical, a subsidiary of healthcare supply company McKesson, will build a new distribution center in Roseville, California, HealthcareDive reported.
The new center will create 166 jobs, with hiring beginning in the fall. McKesson, which is based in San Francisco, has 70,000 employees worldwide.
The plant is slated to open in July 2018, according to The Roseville & Granite Bay Press Tribune.
"I think they'll be a fabulous tenant, bringing in some very good jobs," said Chris Robles, economic development director for McKesson.
The newspaper noted that the medical industry is the largest employment sector in Roseville, supporting 15,000 jobs in the area.
In other medical industry news, Molina Health Plans recently informed employees that it would be laying off 10 percent of the company's health plan and corporate workers by the end of September - 1,400 people in total, NBC Los Angeles reported.
The company, which is headquartered in Long Beach, California, currently has 7,700 employees in its health plan division and 6,400 employees in its corporate division.
Molina noted that some senior leadership positions will be impacted by the layoffs, the source detailed.
