Researcher
When I started working at MRINetwork™, I had only recently returned from a couple of years travelling. Upon returning to the UK I worked briefly in retail and had a brief stint working in a telesales job. Recruitment was a profession that I was interested in joining, although the thought of working for a high-street recruiter or an advertising-based recruiter did not interest me. When I found the opportunity with MRINetwork, I appreciated the chance to work in a small office whilst still having the backing of a large recruitment organisation. The chance to learn the ropes as a researcher and then naturally progress was particularly appealing, as well as the excellent standard of training.
My main responsibilities in my role as researcher are name gathering (finding potential candidates' names and contact details); research calls; updating the internal database, for example when people move firms or firms merge; making recruiting calls to potential candidates; presenting candidates to clients; putting together lengthy documents which are then used for headhunting by the consultants; and liaising with other offices and when necessary between candidates and firms.
The training I have received to date has been ongoing: DVD-based training, a day on a computer training course and one-on-one sessions with other consultants (including numerous role plays to help me prepare for as many eventualities as possible).
Everyday successes for me primarily constitute making headway in the research that I am currently carrying out and feeling that I have made progress during the day. Other successes can include particularly engaging and informative conversations with candidates/clients, or when recruiting/marketing calls are successful. We celebrate small successes with a little "yes!" and a quick conversation with a colleague, but then I am promptly back to work as there is always more to do! The highlight of my day is when I am able to catch up with the consultants regarding the searches that we are currently working on and see the positive impact that my groundwork has on their day-to-day dealings with candidates and clients.
We are a small team in our office, only three at the moment, but everyone pulls their weight. During the working day it is always possible to ask for help from one of the consultants and, should someone be particularly snowed under, others will try to help them with their workload where possible. As it stands, everyone carries out some research and recruiting as and when the time is available.
My manager is a very approachable person and if I am having difficulties with finding particular people, he will always take the time to help me out. Generally I am able to structure my day as I see fit, giving me greater flexibility and the chance to work on various bits of work at the same time. This also allows me to prioritise work as and how the day might require.
The work environment is very friendly and, though we do work very hard, we all agree that we need to have a little fun occasionally! There is an excellent synergy between everyone in the office. We are all quite relaxed and enjoy a chat during the day and the occasional drink on a Friday.
I am interested in heading further down the headhunting path in the future, whilst still being involved in the research side. I am interested in establishing my own desk in time, although I am not yet sure which area I want to specialise in and for the time being I am continuing to grow my knowledge of the industry.
In summary I would recommend MRINetwork because it is a friendly and professional place to work, offering excellent training and the chance to work in a specialised area. (Fran Mayller, MRINetwork MRI Worldwide).
