Mayor Bill de Blasio Proposes the Addition of 100,000 Good-paying Jobs

At the recent State of the City address, Mayor Bill de Blasio said he aims to create 100,000 “good-paying jobs” in New York City, according to WNYC Radio.

“A good job to me has to pay at least $50,000 a year. We’d like to go farther. A good job gives a worker skills that they cannot just use then but for years, and in fact decades to come that allow them to keep going farther and farther,” de Blasio said in his 2017 State of the City address.

According to The Observer, the mayor said that these positions would be across a variety of fields including technology, TV and film, and life sciences. He also suggested that the new policies would help create jobs in “advanced manufacturing.”

The ultimate goal, according to de Blasio, is to keep the city an affordable place for all to live. He said that the plan is to provide employment with salaries between $50,000 and $75,000, at least. The plan has been given a decade to be rolled out.

However, some have said that these ambitious plans are not exactly new: The city already has a pattern of generating jobs close to that number each year, reported The Observer.

The Mayor of New York has big plans for the jobs that will be added over the next 10 years.
