UPS Arlington Distribution Center to Add 1,000 Jobs

United Parcel Service is opening up a new shipping center in Arlington, Texas, that could bring at least 1,000 new jobs to the area, Dallas News reported. The distribution facility will occupy 1 million square feet in a building currently being built by Exeter Property Group in south Arlington. This warehouse will add to the existing network the shipping company has in North Texas, including distribution centers in Mesquite, North Fort Worth and DFW International Airport.

According to Dallas News, UPS said that it expects to create positions for 1,400 workers at the Arlington-based distribution center.

“The new hub location is due to e-commerce volume growth, particularly around holiday seasons, and the need to accommodate that growth,” Arlington officials told the news source. “Per the agreement, UPS is required to create 500 full-time positions and 600 part-time positions, resulting in 800 full-time equivalent positions by December 31, 2019. However, UPS anticipates creating up to 1,400 full-time equivalent positions at this location, which will be all new jobs to Arlington.”

Star-Telegram reported that, across the globe, UPS employs 434,000 workers and ships more than 19 million packages every day.
