Scout Boats, a fishing boat building company, recently announced plans to expand its South Carolina operations and create 370 new jobs, the Associated Press reported. Approximately $11 million will be invested in the Summerville expansion and will include the addition of multiple new boat models.
The line of coastal fishing boats produced by the company range between 17 feet and 53 feet in length, the news source said, and the expansion includes a new facility that will be built to accommodate a 53-foot luxury yacht.
Boating Industry reported that this facility will be 120,000 square feet.
“South Carolina’s economy continues to grow with great companies like Scout Boats investing in our state and our people,” South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said, according to Boating Industry. “Our state’s manufacturing industry is one of the most important forces driving our economy, and that’s because our skilled workforce has proven that it’s better than any other in the world.”
The sources added that job development credits for this project have been approved by the Coordinating Council for Economic Development and that hiring has already begun.
