Topre America, a Japanese auto parts supplier for Honda, has announced plans to build a 146,000-square-foot facility in Springfield, Ohio, ABC22Now reported.
$60 million will be invested into the new facility, which will be located in the Champion Business Park. The facility is an upgrade from the company’s original plans, which saw the construction of a 20,000-square-foot facility.
The new plant will create 85 jobs, according to the source.
Honda is also making moves elsewhere in the country. It recently announced a plan to build a new, $2.2 billion plant in Lincoln, Alabama, Made in Alabama reported.
“This significant financial investment in our Lincoln facility will enhance Honda’s manufacturing efficiency and flexibility to help us meet strong customer demand for our products and prepare us for future opportunities in our industry,” said Honda Manufacturing of Alabama President Jeff Tomko, according to the source.
The new plant is part of a larger plan to improve logistics, manufacturing flexibility and the development of future technologies, the source explained. The first stage of construction at the new plant is slated to be completed in 2018.
