Approximately 200 jobs will be headed to Lehi, Utah, as IM Flash Technologies plans to expand its semiconductor fabrication facility in the state.
Utah Governor Gary Herbert announced on June 20 the expansion will create highly-paid positions for technology professionals. The new jobs will add approximately $1.4 billion in state wages over the next decade, he added.
IM Flash, which is a joint venture between Micron Technology and Intel, currently employs more than 1,400 professionals in the Beehive State. The new positions are expected to take shape in 2012.
“The technology industry that the Governor’s Office of Economic Development has targeted as a key economic indicator has shown incredible staying power by bringing long-term growth to the State, and it is showing continued signs of strength,” Herbert said.
Utah exported nearly $2 billion in computers and electronics in 2010, with a majority coming from the IM Flash plant. The company, which is considered one of the world’s most innovative providers of memory process technology, has increased its market share of flash memory from zero to more than 15 percent over the past five years.
