Pratt & Whitney, an aerospace company headquartered in Connecticut, recently announced that it will invest $386 million in expanding a plant in Columbus, Georgia, the Legder-Enquirer reported.
The plant currently has 1,200 employees, and the expansion will create more than 500 additional jobs over the next five years. The new jobs will be related to administration, technical support, maintenance, production and administration.
The investment will expand the current campus to include construction of a 20,000-square-foot-facility that will produce parts for jet engines and a 200,000-square-foot facility that will be dedicated to engine overhaul, Aviation Week reported.
“Georgia’s pro-business structural framework and deep talent pool help to retain industry leaders such as Pratt & Whitney,” said Gov. Nathan Deal, according to the Ledger-Enquirer. “By adding these new high-quality manufacturing jobs, Pratt & Whitney is making a significant investment in the Columbus community and we look forward to strengthening this longstanding partnership as the company continues to grow.”
Aviation Week noted that as part of the expansion, Pratt & Whitney strengthened its partnership with Columbus Technical College, and will provide aerospace mechanics and manufacturing training programs to prospective employees.
