Tesla Model 3 Reservations Near 400,000

Tesla continues to break records as reservations for its innovative Model 3 vehicle near 400,000, Fortune reported.

The Model 3, an electric car featuring a streamlined design and a variety of advanced “smartcar” features, was revealed to the public in late May amid extensive buzz and speculation. As reservations for the new vehicle rise, many auto industry analysts are wondering how Tesla will fill the massive orders with its existing manufacturing capabilities. Since its inception, Tesla has only manufactured a total of 100,000 cars.

According to Fortune,  the Model 3 is not scheduled to begin shipping until late 2017. However, the source anticipates that many of the orders will not be filled until 2019 or 2020. After the Model 3 was unveiled, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the company is “definitely going to need to rethink production planning.”

The Model 3 is shaking up the U.S. auto industry, which has typically had a difficult time getting consumers interested in electric vehicles. Musk recently said that he believes Apple Inc. will begin manufacturing their own electric vehicles by 2020, reported The Wall Street Journal.
