Social Media Networking Giant Facebook Set to Hire Thousands of New Workers in Big Apple

The popular social networking website Facebook announced it is about to embark on a hiring blitz in New York City.

Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s vice president of engineering, said the company expects to hire thousands of development engineers at its new office in Manhattan, as the company prepares to go public.

“Operating at such a large scale, and innovating as quickly as we do, we need to recruit the most talented engineers in the world,” Schroepfer stated. “New York has a strong history of innovation and is home to thousands of talented technical people, and we want them to help us solve the challenges of designing and building the next generation of Facebook.”

The news came on the heels of the latest employment figures from the U.S. Department of Labor, revealing the tech industry added 7,100 jobs during November 2011, which is a monthly increase of 0.17 percent.

Technology employment in the U.S. is nearing an all time high in June of 2008. The sector now employs more than 4 million workers. According to a Yoh Services study, tech wages also are on the rise, increasing 6.85 percent in September compared to the same time last year.
